Critical Care
Our progressive curriculum provides fellows with comprehensive training in critical care medicine. Our fellows are trained to lead complex and acute critical services at both MGH and BIDMC. The dual-institution nature of our critical care training provides a breadth of experience and exposure to various areas of expertise within the field of critical care medicine. Our trainees not only learn how to expertly perform critical care procedures and lead complex family meetings, they are also trained to teach these skills through feedback and coaching from our critical care faculty. During the first clinical year, fellows develop a strong foundation in critical care knowledge and procedural skills through rotations in the MGH Medical ICU and the Finard ICU at BIDMC. Fellows are also trained in the care of chronically critically ill patients in the Respiratory Acute Care Unit at MGH, which includes mastery of tracheostomy management. In the second year of fellowship, the MICU Blue rotation at BIDMC provides an opportunity for fellows to round independently and lead the team with increasing autonomy. Fellows gain in-depth exposure to non-medical critical care specialties in the Surgical ICUs and Neurosciences ICU.
