Academic Interests
Dr. North’s research focuses on understanding the epidemiology of chronic lung disease in resource-limited settings. In particular, she is investigating the role of chronic HIV infection and ambient air pollution on the prevalence and severity of chronic lung disease in Uganda.
Awards and Recognition
Dr. North is an Associate in Global Health at the MGH Center for Global Health, a Department Associate in Environmental Health at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and Faculty in the MGH Medical Practice Evaluation Center. She has given invited lectures at the Uganda Thoracic Society, the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, and the American Thoracic Society; received abstract awards for presentations at the American Thoracic Society and International AIDS Society scientific meetings, and travel awards through Massachusetts General Hospital Global Health and the Partners Centers of Expertise, as well as 3 NIH Loan Repayment Awards. Her grant funding has included the following: NIH Fogarty Global Health Fellowship (2015 - 2016) MGH Wyss Global Health Fellow (2018 - 2019) Harvard Center for AIDS Research Development Award (2019) American Thoracic Society Foundation Grant (2020) NIH/NHLBI K23 Career Development Award (2020 - 2025) Harvard Global Health Institute Burke Fellowship (2022 - 2023).
